In a rapidly changing automotive world, BMW is positioning itself at the forefront with the launch of the Vision Neue Klasse X at the IAA 2023. This model not only previews the future design of luxury sedans but also sets new standards in terms of technology and sustainability.
The BMW Vision Neue Klasse X stands out for three key features: it is fully electric, highly digital and designed according to circular economy principles. With this model, BMW introduces a simplified design language that promises to reshape the future of the industry.
The exterior of the Neue Klasse X reveals a high ground clearance typical of an SUV, alongside a long wheelbase and short overhangs, giving the vehicle a robust yet elegant appearance. Large glass surfaces illuminate the interior, making it bright and welcoming, with fabrics in warm colours adding a touch of comfort and luxury.
A significant new feature is the vertically aligned LED units that represent a contemporary reinterpretation of the classic BMW light signature. The front grille, an icon of the brand, has also been reinvented with a three-dimensional design and backlit contours, while at the rear the lights extend towards the center, updating the traditional BMW L signature with elements produced by 3D printing.
Under the hood, the Vision Neue Klasse X is equipped with the sixth generation of BMW eDrive technology, including newly developed lithium-ion batteries with a volumetric energy density that is 20 percent higher than in the previous models. The 800-volt power system enables lightning-fast charging: just ten minutes to provide a range of 300 km. These innovations translate into a 30 percent increase in the vehicle's overall range.
BMW has also revolutionized the design of its tires and braking systems, optimizing them for electric vehicles and improving both performance and energy efficiency.
In line with the brand’s commitment to sustainability, the Vision Neue Klasse X makes extensive use of plant-based, mineral-based and completely petroleum-free materials. For the first time, BMW has used marine plastic for injection-molded components, while the side skirts and bumper attachments are made from mono-recycled materials.
With the Vision Neue Klasse X, BMW is not only previewing the future of automotive design but is also making a concrete commitment to more sustainable mobility, confirming its role as an innovative leader in the sector of luxury electric vehicles.
